A 34-year-old Pensacola man wound up in jail Tuesday afternoon after a Florida state trooper clocked him driving 76 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Oderious Anthony Merritt faces these charges: Possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of drugs with intent to sale, possession of drugs with intent to sale, possession of drugs with intent to sale, and possession of drugs , according to the FHP. He was also cited for speeding and having illegal window tinting, the agency said.
The highway patrol said it was about 3 p.m. Tuesday when the trooper stopped Merritt for speeding on Pine Forrest Road. During the stop, the trooper smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, the FHP said. A second trooper was called, and an investigation of the driver and vehicle provided probable cause to search the vehicle, the FHP said.
