The Welsh Grand National was shrouded in thick fog, causing visibility issues and prompting calls for the meeting to be abandoned. Despite passing an inspection, the conditions proved challenging for jockeys and spectators alike.
Racing fans have called for Chepstow 's meeting to be abandoned as dense fog wreaks havoc at the Welsh Grand National. Nevertheless, the course passed its inspection this morning as heavy mist covered miles of the South Welsh track. Visibility was poor for the opening 2m novice hurdle, which the Jamie Snowden-trained Julius Des Pictons emerged through the haze to win.
A delegation of jockeys including Harry Skelton and Gavin Sheehan, alongside trainer Dan Skelton, formed a group inspecting whether it was safe for racing to continue. Sheehan, who won the first race at Chepstow said: “It’s not ideal.KING OF THE HILL One wrote: 'Its an absolute shambles. Call the meeting off, you are ripping off the on course paying punters blind with this!' A second said: 'The meeting should be abandoned, how can anyone see what's even happening? 😡' One more wrote: 'Just watched the racing from Chepstow and you can't hardly see the horses 😪.' Favourite Lowry’s Bar took first place, while Can You Call it and Le Milos finished in second and third respectively. Multiple racecourses struggled with fog yesterday, with the beginning of Aintree's card delayed and Leopardstown having to pause a portion of its meeting during the afternoon
