It will cover six areas of Blackburn and Darwen borough from next year
More details have been given of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s household food waste collection pilot project including the areas affected. The scheme is to prepare for the full introduction of the new refuse service on June 1, 2026.
The rural borough’s community services committee chairman, Cllr Stuart Hirst, said: "There’s still time to take part in the survey. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete and by doing so you are helping us ensure the new service is a success.” “It should be noted that two vehicles will be required. The boroughwide introduction of food waste collection would be easier to manage if the service could gain some experience of an earlier limited introduction of the service, from which lessons could be learnt.
“If Blackburn with Darwen mirror the participation rates achieved in other boroughs, we would expect to collect approximately 4,600 tonnes of food waste per annum from households, and for the pilot areas this is expected to be a maximum of 1,000 tonnes.
