New footage has shown the huge amount of water which shot out of a damaged pipe and flooded a number of homes. Severn Trent said one of its pipes was damaged by "third party contractors on a construction site building new student accommodation" near High Road, Chilwell, early on Tuesday afternoon , which led to a large amount of water bursting on to nearby streets and homes for hours.
A video, filmed by a worker on the site where the pipe was broken, was posted to social media site TikTok after the incident and has been seen by more than two million people. The footage shows the immense jet of water directly hitting a house, resulting in water washing over the home. The construction worker commented that bricks were being thrown into the air by the water, which he said had also flooded nearby streets. The person in the video also points his camera at a piece of machinery on the site and suggests it was what damaged the pipe. from the pipe and the majority of these had to be evacuated. Those forced to leave their properties gathered at a local church - while other residents tried to create makeshift barriers to stop the water from spreading.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the water subsided in the late hours of Tuesday, but Severn Trent explained its teams had to work through the night to complete the complicated repairs on Wednesday . Nottinghamshire Live has attempted to contact the developer of the site but had not received a response at the time of publication.
