Travel lers to Greece have been warned about the risk of fires as the Foreign Office warned people to sign up for safety alerts. Government officials have written on the gov.uk website that people heading to the popular tourist destination between certain months may have a high risk of their holidays being affected. The website states: 'There is a high risk of wildfires during the summer season from April to October. Wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable.

The Press Association reports that according to an updated estimate by the National Observatory of Athens, over the past eight years 174 square miles of forest have been burned in the Attica region that includes Athens, amounting to 37 percent of the region’s total forested area.
