The Foreign Office has issued new advice to Brits as the European heatwave continues to sweep the continent
The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Spain, Greece, Turkey, and Italy as a severe heatwave grips the European Union , with temperatures soaring into the mid-40s.
Spain The Foreign Office explained: "Temperatures in some parts of Spain can change very quickly. Take extra care when planning a hike or walk. Check local weather reports for warnings of extreme heat or cold temperatures. Altitude sickness may be a risk in some of the higher mountain ranges in Spain, particularly in the regions of Granada, Huesca and Tenerife.
Turkey "Extreme temperatures can affect many areas of Turkey over the summer months. The NHS has information on how to cope in hot weather," it explained. On the NHS website, The NHS says: "Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. During heatwaves, more people than usual get seriously ill or die.
It also urges you to "make sure cigarettes are properly extinguished" and "do not light barbecues". It adds: "Causing a wildfire or a forest fire is a criminal offence in Greece – even if unintentional. If you see a fire, call the emergency services on 112." "Take care when visiting or driving through woodland areas and report fires to the emergency services."
