At the opening of an inquest into Thorpe’s death, coroner Simon Wickens said the former cricketer died from ‘traumatic injuries’ after he was hit by a train on August 4. Speaking at Surrey Coroner’s Court, Wickens said that Thorpe, a father of four, had died as a result of ‘multiple injuries’.
’ Thorpe played 100 Test matches for England Thorpe’s widow, Amanda, said in an interview with The Times on Monday that the former cricketer had attempted suicide two years ago. ‘Graham was renowned as someone who was very mentally strong on the field and he was in good physical health,’ she said. ‘But mental illness is a real disease and can affect anyone. Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better.
