FOX10 News continues to look into school safety after a number of schools in our area have faced threats.
Six juveniles arrested in Mobile in connection to school threats, two in Baldwin County, one in Escambia County, Fla. and another in Okaloosa County. All of these happening in the span of two weeks.
With 52,000 students in Mobile County Public Schools, a spokesperson who the school system said they have 13 resource officers and 12 sheriff’s deputies. President of the National Association of School Resource Officers and a working SRO in Lee County, Alabama Pam Revels said training is important, so every SRO knows how to address issues like threats.
Revels said while there are multiple layers to safety, it’s important for every school to be committed to it.“In the past year or so, especially in the past month or two, it has not felt as safe as it usually does,” said Serrina Jones. “School has felt very suffocating and it’s very scary now, especially after the Georgia shooting, things have just been spiraling”
