Police had beefed up their presence before the game
Anger broke out in the stands during France's game against Israel in the Nations League despite the local authorities ramping up their security before the clash.
Video footage emerged on social media showing two groups of supporters comforting each in the terraces before a clash took place with one set of fans charging at the other in the first half of the fixture. A number of people were see rushing away from the violence. French outlet RMC Sport state that the incident lasted for two minutes and took place in the stand where Israel fans were located.
The report states that around 50 people were involved, with stewards intervening to form a cordon and restore order. It is said that after the violence had died down, a group of Israel supporters began chanting: "Free the hostages, free the hostages." Going into the game, thousands of police are being deployed in Paris with the Stade de France leaving 60,000 empty seats.
