The parent of an 11-year-old girl was full of praise for the free You Matter Performing Arts Week held in the Meriden Community Centre from October 24 to 18.
Initially, the parent, who does not want to be named, was not sure if their daughter would go because she is shy in large groups.They said: “She has been bullied at school and now finds it hard to make friends so spends a lot of time on her own. “With a little encouragement she joined in and absolutely loved the first day and came home full of stories of what she’d done and how amazing the teachers were.
“To see her singing and dancing in the show on Friday was a very special moment – taking the stage with a big smile and full of confidence was very emotional to watch.”A total of 30 children, aged 8 to 13, from across Watford had the opportunity to learn from talented professionals,Ollie, aged 12, said is favourite part of the week were the drama lessons.A group of eager singers get ready for the show.
India, aged nine, described it as the “best week of her life” and Belle aged 10 said she enjoyed the dancing and circus activities.She added: “It was beautiful to see that in the right environment and with encouragement, children can become so full of self-worth.”
