– It's been a whirlwind for Danielle Ponder , who left her career as a Monroe County Public Defender to pursue her dreams. 13WHAM's Karen Edwards sat down with Ponder for an exclusive one-on-one.
"It's been incredible," she said. "There are definitely days where I'm like, 'I cannot believe this is my life.' This show is really for the O.G. fans who have been riding with me for a long time." From performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live to touring across the world, Ponder returned to her hometown as a headliner for the Lilac Festival."I'm really excited. I have to tell you, the first time I performed at the Lilac Festival was over 10 years ago. Our slot was at 10:30 in the morning and I didn't care. I was just so happy to be on that stage! And now to come back as a headliner and all of the things that have happened since then...
"I think really just solidified that feeling that this has the power to impact people, especially young folks," Ponder said. "So, the ability to just inspire them, I really almost teared up. When I walked in, the kids were clapping. They were screaming. So, realizing that what you're doing means something more to peoples lives than I could've imagined is really rewarding.""I felt afraid. I felt anxious. I still feel afraid sometimes.
"An Evening of Soul Curated by Danielle Ponder" is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16th at the Lilac Festival's.
