China has launched another attack on Australia despite recent attempts to ease tensions as Beijing accuses Canberra and its western partners of “fuelling military confrontation”.

A powerful House of Commons defence committee has pushed for the security pact between the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia to eventually include India and Japan.Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing respected partnerships which were “consistent with the trend of peace and development” but suggested AUKUS had targeted and was “harmful” to the superpower’s interests.

Picture: Getty Images The highly-advanced boats have the ability to travel and remain undetected for much longer than the traditional diesel-powered vessels. “We are seriously concerned about and opposed to AUKUS. We hope the US, the UK and Australia will honour their international obligations, and act in the interest of regional peace and stability,” she said.
