More than 200 nations are fielding athletes in the competition this year
Athletes from more than 200 countries will be competing in the Paris Olympic Games this summer. This year's competition officially begins with the opening ceremony along the River Seine on Friday night, July 26.
Hundreds of athletes are in France for the Games, hoping to take home medals for their countries in dozens of events. This year, the Olympics will run over 19 days and feature 34 sports and 47 disciplines in total.READ MORE: UK holidaymakers heading to Paris this summer issued warning Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete as Individual Neutral Athletes after the countries' Olympic Committees were banned from the event amid the war in Ukraine. Individual Neutral Athletes do not bring a delegation to the opening ceremony.The largest squad at this year's Games belongs to the United States, with a team of 598 athletes, followed by hosts France, who are fielding 571 athletes.
