River levels are high following recent rainfall and could lead to flooding in some areas
Almost 20 flood alerts have been implemented across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands. After days of heavy rain river levels have been rising across the region leading to possible flooding in 17 areas.
The two closest flood warnings in place are the River Rother at Beighton and Woodhouse Mill, near Sheffield. The latest update for the River Trent in Nottinghamshire warns that river levels are expected to remain high until Thursday, October 3, and that the situation is being closely monitored. This comes after many counties experienced the wettest September on record, especially for Southern and central England. Areas like Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire experienced more than three times their average September rainfall.
