Strikes take place tomorrow

This week, two days of rail strikes are expected to take place, causing significant disruptions across the country.

Train drivers part of both Aslef and the Rail, Maritime and Transport union will stage a walkout on Wednesday, February 1 and Friday, February 3 due to a long-running dispute over pay, jobs and working conditions. On Wednesday, other industries will be facing strikes as teachers, university lecturers, civil servants, and bus drivers all stage a walkout on the same day, marking one of the biggest days of nationwide industrial actions in over a decade.RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "Our negotiations will continue with the rail operators to create a package on jobs, conditions and pay that can be offered to our members.

Aslef members voted in favour of a strike after rejecting a proposal. Mick Whelan, general secretary of Aslef, said: ‘The proposal is not and could not ever be acceptable but we are willing to engage in further discussions within the process that we previously agreed.’
