Ex-Plaid Cymru leader causes fury by saying 'women carrying knives as defence against rapists'
A LEADING politician has sparked outrage by claiming women carry knives to protect themselves from rapists.
“Women have always carried knives. With the rape and sexual assault conviction rate so low, is it really a surprise?”As dozens of Twitter users reacted in shock, she added: “Can’t believe some are choosing my words as endorsing or encouraging people to carry a knife. You’re endorsing the carrying of knives for ‘protection’. That’s the same argument as the gun lobby in the US.Labour MP Chris Bryant was “appalled” at her stance. He told her: “You’re endorsing the carrying of knives for ‘protection’.“And it’s precisely what has led to the escalation of knife carrying and stabbings in the UK.”
