Manchester United's clash with Liverpool went ahead as scheduled despite heavy snowfall in Merseyside, with Gary Neville jokingly trying to get the game postponed.
Gary Neville was seen shovelling snow back onto the pitch at Anfield as he jokingly tried to get Manchester United 's trip to Liverpool postponed. Merseyside was impacted by heavy snowfall overnight, and an amber warning was put in place as a result. There were fears that the world's most-watched football club football fixture could therefore be postponed, with two safety meetings taking place on Sunday morning.
However, after the second meeting - which took place around midday - it was confirmed that United's clash with Liverpool was due to go ahead as scheduled. A statement from United read: 'Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today's match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead. 'There have been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend the 4.30pm kick-off. Take care if you are travelling to Merseyside today, Reds.' Despite confirmation that the game was on, ex-United defender Neville appeared to try and postpone the match. In a video posted by Sky Sports, Neville and Jamie Carragher were spotted having fun at Anfield and it's safe to say they shared contrasting views on whether the game should go ahead. Carragher, who was on the pitch, attempted to clear snow, while Neville tried to shovel it back from the playing surface, with Sky Sports presenter David Jones saying: 'Also with us today is two men who had a different view on whether this game should be on today. 'Jamie doing his best to clear the snow from the pitch. Gary Neville trying to get it back on, so we could have the game called off. It didn't work, we have game on thankfully here at Anfield.' United head into the clash with Liverpool looking to return to winning ways after four successive defeats.
