Construction begins on a giant Ferris wheel in Darwen town centre, set to open just before the half-term holiday. Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is also hosting a series of free events at Darwen Library for families to enjoy.
Darwen town center will soon be home to a giant Ferris wheel, bringing excitement for families and thrill-seekers. Construction started today in front of Darwen Market, with a massive crane arriving to assemble the wheel ahead of the half-term holiday, which runs from Monday, February 17th, to Friday, February 21st. Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council plans to release more detailed information about the Ferris wheel, scheduled to open on Saturday, February 8th.
The council is also organizing a series of free events at Darwen Library during the half-term period. These include a Crankie Making workshop led by artist Alice Rowbottom. Crankies are a unique way of storytelling through pictures. Participants can draw, craft, and create their very own cardboard Crankie theatre to take home. This workshop will be held at Blackburn Market on Wednesday, February 19th, and Darwen Market on Monday, February 17th, from 11 am to 3 pm.Another engaging event is the Seed Bomb Workshop hosted by The Making Rooms. Attendees will learn about spreading a little flower power while discovering fun and eco-friendly methods to make a positive impact. This workshop is suitable for all ages and will take place at Blackburn Market on Friday, February 21st, and Darwen Market on Wednesday, February 19th, from 11 am to 3 pm. Additionally, children and families can enjoy the interactive theatrical performance 'Where Do Noses Grow?' by Goofus Theatre. This heartwarming story follows Lucy's fantastical journey as she sets off to find the island of noses where the strange nose rose grows. The performance will be held at Blackburn Market on Saturday, February 22nd, and Darwen Market on Friday, February 21st. Each day, it will be performed four times at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm. No booking is required, but attendees are advised to arrive five minutes prior to the show. This captivating performance is suitable for ages 2 and above
