Findings of 'serious corrupt conduct' have been made against former premier Gladys Berejiklian and former Wagga Wagga Liberal MP Daryl Maguire after an investigation by the NSW watchdog ICAC.
The ICAC found Berejiklian approved the grants without disclosing her close personal relationship with Maguire, when she had a conflict of interest between her public duty and her private love interest. The Commission is not recommending that Berejiklian be prosecuted for any of the misconduct offences she has been found to have committed.In regards to the findings against Berejiklian's secret boyfriend Maguire, ICAC said Maguire improperly used his office, and the resources to which he had access as an MP, to benefit a company called G8wayInternational Pty Ltd.
ICAC will now refer Maguire and two associates to the Director of Public Prosecutions to consider possible criminal prosecution. During her appearance at the ICAC inquiry on October 12, 2020, Berejiklian made the bombshell revelation she had been in a secret relationship with Maguire between 2015 and 2018.
