Education Union EIS has confirmed that college lecturers will strike over the next two weeks, as students across the city are scheduled to return.
A Scottish teaching union has confirmed strikes that will impact Glasgow students attending colleges.
"Scotland's FE lecturers have not had a pay increase since September 2021 and, for the past three years, have had to endure a sharp decline in the real-terms value of their salaries throughout the worst cost-of-living crisis in living memory. Colleges across Glasgow are planning to welcome students back as early as next week, but some courses may be affected across the city’s colleges as lecturers take to the picket line.
The college has confirmed that most classes will be running but individual lecturers will confirm in due course. “Colleges across Scotland are now very experienced in dealing with the consequences of such regular industrial action, and, having dealt with many similar situations over recent years, students are given the opportunity to complete their course and progress to advanced study or directly into employment.
The statement reads: ‘I am afraid, however, that we have now been notified by EIS FELA that their members intend to take strike action. This action is part of national industrial action across all colleges in Scotland and is out with the direct control of Glasgow Kelvin College.‘On days not affected by strike action, your classes will run as normal and please check your timetable on MyKelvin for further information.
