The city remained the worst in Scotland for drug deaths last year, and SNP councillor Allan Casey believes decriminalising use could help addicts get the treatment they need.

A Glasgow councillor is calling for drug use to be decriminalised to help tackle the shocking level of drug related deaths in the city.

There were a total of 1051 drug misuse deaths registered in Scotland overall, a decrease of 21% compared to 2021, making 2022 the lowest number of deaths since 2017. While naloxone training has been offered to all elected members, the motion asks that further training sessions should be arranged so that the more people who are trained and carry a naloxone kit, the more lives might be saved.
