The facility is expected to open in October and will have booths for up to eight people to inject drugs at any one time.
Scotland’s first official drug consumption room — which is set to open in October — is expected to be used by people within “a 10 minute walk”.
During an update to the Safe Glasgow Partnership today , councillors were told the facility would operate from 9am to 9pm, 365 days a year. The partnership heard there is currently a “horrendous issue” with litter in the area. The official added it would be “wonderful if people do travel further to the service” but the focus is on the Calton area, where people using drugs are “causing themselves a great deal of harm”.
As well as injecting booths, there will be a recovery area, chat rooms, a chill zone, a garden, treatment space and a shower.
