'He refused to co-operate.'
John Chawner, 43, pounced on Christopher Law in his cell at HMP Shotts in Lanarkshire on October 23 2021.
He bound Law's hands and feet together, punched and kicked him before striking him with a broken toilet brush.Chawner was in Shotts having been jailed for a least 15 years in 2008 for murdering a man in Glasgow's Blackhill in a row over an apparently stolen lawnmower. He has now had six years added after he pleaded guilty on Friday to abducting and assaulting Law to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Prosecutor Angela Gray told the High Court in Glasgow how there had been"ill feeling" between the men., but did not go in and instead allowed associates of Law to enter.Staff became aware of the attack, but Chawner warned he was not letting Law go.After negotiating with Chawner, Law was eventually freed before the killer was also taken out the cell.Kris Gilmartin, defending, said Chawner believed Law was involved in his prison issue mobile phone being stolen.
