£20,000 a year has been spent on a contract with a private PR firm to coach staff for appearances at the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry, which is examining problems at the £842million Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Families caught up in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital infections scandal have blasted NHS bosses for spending thousands coaching staff for a public inquiry.
Dozens of patients developed rare infections and some died following treatment at QEUH, which opened in 2015. Families of some of those impacted by the scandal have accused NHSGGC of trying to learn how to protect their reputation rather than get to the truth, the Sunday Mail reports. James was given anti-fungal drugs due to problems with contaminated water. David said: "The PR-drilled witnesses they’ve provided have appeared entirely out of their depth and often met the anger of the inquiry team for their nonchalant attitude, so it seems the money spent on coaching them has been wasted."
NHSGGC said it used PR firm Second City Communications “to support staff who may be entering an unfamiliar environment, allowing them to confidently present and answer any questions asked of them in a public forum.”Louise Slorance wants answers about what happened to her husband Andrew when he developed an infection while waiting for a bone marrow transplant in 2020. She said: “Watching NHSGGC witnesses giving evidence, it’s clear they’ve been told to repeat key phrases.
