The Scottish Government offers a £314.45 School Age Payment to families with children born between March 1, 2019, and February 29, 2020. The payment can be used for school-related expenses and is available to multiple children in a household. Parents and carers are urged to apply before their child starts school.

Parents and carers across Glasgow are being urged to apply for a substantial cash boost to help with the rising cost of living. The Scottish Government is offering a School Age Payment of £314.45 per child for families with children born between 1 March 2019 and 29 February 2020. This payment, part of Social Security Scotland ’s Best Start Grant , can be used for any school-related expenses, including books, bags, clothes, and equipment.

The payment is typically distributed around the time a child is eligible to start primary school, and there is no requirement to enroll in school to receive it. However, it's crucial for parents and carers to apply before their child begins school, as delaying the application could result in missing out on the payment. The School Age Payment is available for multiple children within the same household, as long as each child meets the age criteria. Social Security Scotland automatically processes the payment for eligible individuals who receive the Scottish Child Payment. However, those not receiving the Scottish Child Payment or who have opted out of automatic payments must apply before the deadline.Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville emphasized the importance of applying for the School Age Payment, stating, 'If you have a child in the family aged five, or who turns five this month, then you could be eligible for School Age Payment. We are urging everyone who is eligible to make sure that they don’t miss the deadline for applications, especially as all the children in the household who are the right age can get the payment.' She added that the Best Start Grant aims to provide children in Scotland with the best possible start in life, and this payment is a valuable contribution to families during a crucial stage in their child's development. While some families may not qualify for the Scottish Child Payment, they could still be eligible for the School Age Payment. This includes parents and carers receiving housing benefit, those under 18 who don't receive other benefits, or 18-19 year olds who are financially dependent on someone receiving benefits on their behalf. The deadline to apply for the School Age Payment is midnight on Friday, February 28th.
