The recent decision has been branded as ‘brutal’ for the elderly by Age Scotland and comes as the UK Government introduced plans to means-test the Winter Fuel Payment across England and Wales.
The Scottish Government has been left with ‘no choice’ but to cut winter fuel payments for pensioners as it faces a funding gap of almost £160 million.
She said: “Despite all efforts to review our financial position we have been left with no choice but to follow the UK Government and restrict payments to older people who receive relevant eligible benefits. Adam Stachura, Age Scotland’s Policy Director called out the plans, he said: “It’s infuriating that huge numbers of older people will miss out on the vital Winter Fuel Payment when it is devolved to Scotland.
