Glasgow has an ever-changing skyline, and 2024 saw many new additions. This included the completion of the Partick-Govan Bridge. And 2025 looks no different, and as more projects get underway the city is sure to be transformed. From a student skyscraper to the demolition of high-rise flats, there are plenty of plans to keep an eye on in the coming months. Here are six projects that could change the face of Glasgow .
A 35-storey student skyscraper will be Glasgow's tallest residential building when it's built near Charing Cross. The Ard will boast spectacular views of the M8, as well as the rest of the city, and will feature a games room, gym and art studio. The massive tower, which was approved by Glasgow City Council in August, is set to host 784 students. One building that is sorely missed and will not see 2025 is the iconic ABC O2 building in Glasgow city centre. The once popular Sauchiehall Street venue had its fate sealed when councillors agreed that it should be demolished after being destroyed by a fire that began at the neighbouring Glasgow School of Art's Mackintosh building. Despite campaigns to save the façade of the building, it was served a notice ordering it to be flattened by December 9. Work is well underway to clear the site. Near High Street, plans have been lodged for 1,700 new flats on the site of a former goods yard. The plans would see 700 private flats and 1,000 rooms for students on the site just off College Street. Previously, plans had been approved for 1,500 flats at the site, but new owners have submitted new plans and say they are 'far improved'.
