Glasgow City Council intends to remove 450 posts over three years, with 172 of them axed this year.

The EIS union has notified Glasgow City Council of its intention to open a ballot on industrial action on Monday, September 2.

Jane Gow, EIS Glasgow local association secretary, said there had been a “resounding mandate” for industrial action in a consultative ballot in June. She said the cuts amount “to 10% of the entire teacher workforce in Glasgow”. Glasgow City Council has previously said it will “do everything we can to minimise any impact to schools but in the current financial climate the council must look at every option”.
