Vidhi Chanyal has been recognised by Amazon and Waterstones after releasing her book Arise, which tells the story of a young boy during the Salem witch trials in 1692.

A teenager who dreams of becoming a full-time novelist has published her first book at just 16 years old.

The St Luke's High School student, who won the Young Author category at last year’s British Youth International College Inspire Awards at Scottish Parliament, has paid tribute to educator and founder of BYITC, Dr Rashmi Mantri. Vidhi says Dr Mantri is her "inspiration" as she motivated the youngster to go to Olympia Publishers, who published the book.

"I had begun writing short stories in my spare time, but I also had my studies and I had to focus on them. When I won the BYITC Award, I felt I could achieve so much more, and it inspired me to continue."I have five more books already written and, although my studies must come first, when I am older, I want to continue on this path and become a full-time novelist."
