A tech outage centered on Microsoft grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off the air on Friday.
'Penn Medicine and Main Line Health are canceling elective surgeries this morning, part of the worldwide internet outages caused by CrowdStrike.
“All operations are continuing normally except for elected surgical procedures, which were paused this morning,” a Main Line health spokesperson said in a statement. Personal computer-based systems at Penn that are down will not be up on time to facilitate non-urgent surgeries as well, according to an email to staff. The note states that paper forms are available to provide safe care in case of emergencies. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is not a client of CrowdStrike, according to an email to CHOP staff. The hospital, which is adjacent to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, noted that Penn has been impacted.
Temple Health shared with employees that while the health system is not a client of CrowdStrikes, some of its vendors may be. The note instructed employees to report any issues.
