Rishi Sunak confirmed that the bus fare cap will not go up until the end of next year
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the government will freeze bus fares to help people save money on travel costs.
The government claims the freeze has only been made possible to changes to the HS2 fund which has reportedly brought government bus fares down to nearly £600 million. More than 140 operators across the country have signed up to the fare cap, covering more than 5,000 routes.Read more: Supermarket 'most expensive' for basket of essentials after all others drop price of shopping staple
"We are lowering travel costs through the bus fare cap, which we are able to do because of our long-term decision to cancel phase 2 of HS2. We are also providing an extra top up to help pay energy bills and direct payments to cover the cost of day-to-day essentials.
