The government will introduce legislation to double the maximum prison term for offenders and impose an $11,000 fine on anyone caught wielding a knife.

Legislation set to be introduced on Tuesday will see possession of a knife in a public place or school and wielding a knife in a public place or a school become offences under the Crimes Act.
