Government officials have drawn up contingency plans to extend energy bills support for households and businesses from March, theipaper has learned 🔴 BenGartside reports:

The Government has faced increased criticism over plans to reduce support, as households have continued to struggle with bills.Mr Lewis wrote: “This cannot wait until the Budget – in practice, energy firms will need to know much sooner if the planned rise isn’t happening on 1 April, or they are bound to have to communicate to customers that it is coming.”

Meanwhile, City analysts have suggested the costs of maintaining the policy may be lower than anticipated, due to the drop in wholesale energy costs.
