Government Rwanda policy is unlawful, court rules The Court of Appeal said Rwanda was not a 'safe country'
ASYLUM SEEKERS will not be sent to Rwanda to start a new life because it is unlawful, the Court of Appeal has ruled.
Following efforts from human rights campaigners and the bill being blocked by the European Court of Human Rights, the “inhumane” policy will no longer go ahead. He added: “Finally, the Court of Appeal makes clear that its decision implies no view whatever about the political merits or otherwise of the Rwanda policy.“The court’s concern is only whether the policy complies with the law as laid down by Parliament.”
Yolande Makolo, spokesperson for the government of Rwanda, told the BBC “While this is ultimately a decision for the UK’s judicial system, we do take issue with the ruling that Rwanda is not a safe country for asylum seekers and refugees.
