The weather warning is in place from 2pm on Sunday
The late summer heatwave is set to be replaced with thunderstorms across Greater Manchester on Sunday. A yellow weather warning is in place which covers the region, starting at 2pm and remaining in force until midnight.
The Met Office's weather warning warns of the potential for 'flooding of homes and businesses', and the chance of 'damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds'. It adds: "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
Environment Agency flood duty manager Chris Wilding has warned motorists against driving through floodwaters in the case of flash flooding. He said: "We urge people not to drive through floodwater – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car."While it will be slightly cooler on Sunday, it is still expected to remain hot with the Met Office forecasting highs of 26C in the region.
