Severe storms have unleashed record rainfall on Greater Manchester, leading to widespread flooding and travel disruptions. The Environment Agency has issued numerous flood warnings, urging residents to take immediate action.

Severe rain has battered Greater Manchester with flood alerts issued across the region. The Environment Agency currently has 70 alerts for flooding across Greater Manchester , with 55 of those warning people to 'act now'. Flood warnings indicate homes and businesses are at risk, as well as railway lines and roads being affected. Any action plan you have in place should be acted on immediately. A flood alert means that flooding is possible so you should prepare for the possibility.

Flooding has already left cars stranded in several parts of Stockport, with flood waters entering people's properties in Cheadle. It's also been reported homes have suffered flood damage on Delph New Road in Saddleworth. The River Mersey has hit record levels in south Manchester, according to Environment Agency figures. The river hit 7.66m at Didsbury River, with the previous record being 7.23m recorded in February 2022. Several roads remain closed, with traffic stopped on the M60 anticlockwise at Portwood and the M56 westbound closed between junctions six and seven. People are being warned 'do not travel' on New Year's Day after the deluge of rain caused major flooding. TransPennine Express says the worst affected areas are Greater Manchester and Cheshire. And as rain is set to continue for several hours, further flooding is likely. Below are the latest warnings and alerts issued by the Environment Agency for Greater Manchester.
