New figures reveal that nine out of 27 Greater Manchester MPs have earned over £50,000 from second jobs since the general election. While most of this income stems from final payments for roles held before their election, Makerfield MP Josh Simons is the only one to be paid for television work. Meanwhile, Nigel Farage, MP for Clacton, has been juggling nine jobs in addition to his parliamentary duties, earning a staggering £571,585, more than any other MP.

Greater Manchester MPs have earned over £50,000 from second jobs outside their parliamentary duties, according to new figures. An analysis by the Reach Data Unit revealed that nine out of the 27 MPs in the region received a total of £50,476 for work performed before and after their election.

While most of this income stemmed from final payments for roles held prior to their election, such as serving as local councillors, Makerfield MP Josh Simons stands out as the only Greater Manchester MP to be paid for television work. He received £1,675 from Sky TV for appearances on Politics Hub and a final payment of £2,665 for his role as a director of the Labour Together think tank. Connor Rand, MP for Altrincham and Sale West, received the highest single payment of £19,432, representing an end-of-service payment from his former employer, the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw). Notably, this payment was received in August, shortly after Rand left his position as a senior researcher in July upon his election as Labour MP. Similarly, Michael Wheeler (Worsley and Eccles, Labour) and Phil Brickell (Bolton West, Labour) received end-of-service payments from Usdaw and NatWest, respectively, for their previous roles. Three other Greater Manchester MPs declared earnings for their work as local councillors: Lisa Smart (Hazel Grove, Labour), Tom Morrison (Cheadle, Lib-Dem), and Elsie Blundell (Heywood and Middleton North, Labour). In contrast, Nigel Farage, MP for Clacton, has been juggling nine jobs in addition to his parliamentary duties. Farage has received a staggering £571,585 for these roles, more than any other MP. A significant portion of this income, £219,506, comes from presenting his show on GB News. While some of this payment may predate the election, it is unclear how much. It is known that Farage received £137,899 from GB News for post-election work alone. He has also earned £189,300 as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion, a gold trading company, and £54,006 through Cameo video recordings. Farage's earnings from speaking engagements and writing a column for The Telegraph further contribute to his substantial income. This comes amidst concerns raised by Commons leader Lucy Powell about MPs engaging in activities that distract from their core duties and damage Parliament's reputation.
