A 5.0 earthquake was recorded on Sunday as the Greek islands continue to be hit by tremors
Santorini and neighbouring Greek islands are continuing to be rocked by hundreds of tremors as the region is hit by an “earthquake swarm”.
In the last two weeks several thousand quakes have been recorded throughout the islands in an “earthquake swarm”. Experts have warned that the region could experience a stronger earthquake, but authorities have ruled out any volcanic activity. Santorini and the neighbouring islands are located on the Hellenic Arc, an area of significant seismic activity. Santorini's last major earthquake happened in 1956, measuring a magnitude of 7.7.
