So how ’bout dem Blue Devils? While neither of us put Duke-Clemson on our best bets last week, I know if you’re like me, you had some interest in the game. I had Duke +13 but then decided to shoot for a middle in the second quarter and had Clemson – 6.5. And the end result is why I never do that. Still, I took the initial Duke bet in the interest of this column because for the common gambler , the “too good to be true” line is an easy trap.
Like the rest of the football nerd world, I spent Tuesday afternoon feverishly clicking refresh while looking for Travis Kelce updates in one window while diving into NFL futures research in others. With that Fresno money line winner, perhaps I can go buy a new laptop to replace the one that got stolen from my car at my local country club* last week.Maybe I can build one of my own with the damage we’re going to do this season. Let’s draft some NFL futures and win totals.
Locally, I’d like to point out that UTEP is -1.5 against Northwestern in Evanston. Now, you might not be surprised to learn the Miners have never been a favorite over a Power 5 school before, but they’ve also never beaten one. Northwestern loses to mediocre mid-major teams at home on the regular, that’s nothing new, but “underdogs to UTEP” is a new low in the modern era. Just think, if the Wildcats can win this game and beat Howard later in the year, they will double their win total from 2022.
