The Jacqui Lambie Network will support the $10b housing future fund if 1200 of the mooted 30,000 homes are built in Tasmania.
The Albanese government’s key housing policy is at the mercy of the Greens after the Jacqui Lambie Network indicated a preparedness to support theJLN senator Tammy Tyrrell said she would support the HAFF if 1200 of the mooted 30,000 homes it will build were built in Tasmania.
The Coalition opposes all four policy measures, meaning the government needs the Greens and two other Senate crossbenchers, such as Senator Lambie and her offsider Senator Tyrrell. The HAFF is an off-budget fund in which $10 billion would be invested in the Future Fund with the earnings used to build social and affordable housing.
“The joint crossbench demands are nice-to-haves,” she said of the various demands being made by the Greens and independent senator David Pocock. “Labor’s housing fund would mean these people get 600 homes over 5 years. We’ve got a waiting list of more than 4500 [so] 600 is not good enough,” Senator Tyrrell said.

Voice machinery bill expected to pass despite Coalition set to vote against itThe Coalition is set to vote against the machinery bill setting up the Voice to Parliament referendum this week, but the bill is still expected to pass, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. “That's before we even get the legislation next week setting up the question for the referendum,” Mr Clennell said. “This machinery bill is expected to pass anyway with the support of the Greens, the Jacquie Lambie Independents and David Pocock.” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has made clear neither the Yes or No campaigns should get public money. “Labor feels the Coalition can't resolve internal differences on this so the simple thing will be for them to say no,” Mr Clennell added.
