A damning final report from the six-year inquiry into Grenfell slammed 'decades of failure' across UK that set 'path to disaster'.
A 1999 tower block blaze in North Ayrshire should have been a red flag on the dangers of high-rise cladding ahead of the Grenfell disaster, a public inquiry has found.
Now, a massive 1700-page report into the catastrophe has pointed to a series of fires as far back as the 1990s which should have sounded the alarm on dangerous cladding. "Far too little has been done since then. We cannot have another tragedy before we make the changes that are so vital." Sean Clerkin, of the Scottish Tenants Organisation, said: “25 years on from Garnock Court, it’s a disgrace that so little has been done.
But the combustible cladding was not banned because it met a British standard known as “Class Zero”, despite calls from MPs to scrap that classification.
