In a scathing conclusion, the public inquiry into the 2017 tragedy found the Government received 'numerous warnings' about cladding risks over decades - and yet failed to take them

The public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower disaster, which took 72 lives, has concluded that it was the result of "decades of failure" by those in charge.

Inquiry chairman Sir Martin Moore-Bick's report delivered a damning verdict, revealing that the Government had been warned numerous times about the dangers of cladding over many years but failed to act. However, the final report dismissed this claim, concluding that officials felt "pressure because of the policy of deregulation" and were "inhibited" in advising ministers accordingly.

The inquiry specifically noted Edward Daffarn's treatment by TMO, with the report confirming his style to be found "offensive" by the organisation. Daffarn, who miraculously escaped his 16th-floor flat during the harrowing event, has consistently expressed he was met with "contempt" prior to the tragedy for his repeated safety complaints.

Nicholas Holdgate, the chief executive of RBKC, was criticised for being "unduly concerned for RBKC's reputation" and having "no clear plan". The latest findings reveal shocking levels of intentional obfuscation and skulduggery entrenched within the construction sector. Kingspan, a company whose insulation was installed in the Grenfell Tower, has been accused of "cynically exploiting the industry's lack of detailed knowledge" around cladding tests and classifications.
