JON JOHNSON Maci Caldwell wrestled the ball away to score the deciding goal, the defense shined when it mattered the most and Maggie Renshaw saved the day with a stop of a penalty kick during Houston Academy’s 3-2 win at Providence Christian on Friday night.
“I think it’s really all about finding that effort even when you having nothing left,” Caldwell said. “It’s in those last moments that changes the game – who’s going to fight for the ball? I think it’s just a mindset that you can’t be the one to lose the ball and you have to finish it.” But HA goalkeeper Maggie Renshaw made a terrific diving save on Bienvenu’s effort. Then when Bienvenu got the rebound and took another shot, Renshaw knocked it away.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime after Houston Academy scored first on a goal by Mary Mills Carter on an assist by Emily Selig. The Eagles tied it up on a score by Bienvenu off an assist by Annabeth Townsend.
