His comments came as Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will have 'security responsibility’ for Gaza once war ends
A senior Hamas leader has refused to admit that his organisation killed civilians in Israel, claiming only 'conscripts or soldiers' were targeted. Speaking to the BBC, Moussa Abu Marzouk said that women, children and civilians were 'exempt' from the 7 October attacks. Israel has said that most of the 1,400 people killed were civilians, and video evidence suggests Hamas gunmen shot at unarmed women and children.
Meanwhile, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has said more than 10,000 people have been killed since Israel's operation began a month ago. Mr Marzouk told the BBC that Israeli hostages would not be freed until the bombing stopped. 'We will release them. But we need to stop the fighting,' he said. He claimed that the leader of Hamas's military wing, Mohamed el-Deif, had ordered his men to target reservist soldiers but to spare civilians.
