John Mozley and Ben Tyler have now been jailed
Two men stole thousands of pounds from the corner shop where they worked then tried to stage a burglary to cover their tracks.
The court heard how Tyler, who was employed as a shop assistant at the premises on Thelwall New Road, was on a shift with a colleague on June 10, 2023. Later that morning, staff members arrived at the store to find Tyler and Mozley already inside. The pair told their colleagues that a neighbour had informed them that there had been an attempted burglary overnight and they had arrived early to ensure everything was in order.
The next morning , Mozley told the member of staff that the store had been burgled. He claimed that the suspect had found the keys to the safe and taken its contents along with the CCTV hard drive. A visit from the store area manager revealed that more than £8,500 in cash was missing. The duo had planned the burglary to account for the missing money.
