Discover the haunted pubs of Nottinghamshire, where mysterious figures, moving objects, and ghostly encounters send shivers down your spine. One such pub is Ye Olde Saluation Inn, known for its resident spirit Rosie, a young girl who tragically died in the courtyard. Visitors have reported being scratched by an unseen force until a doll was left in the caves for Rosie.
With a chill in the air, dark nights and Halloween just around the corner, it's perfect timing for a ghostly tale or two. And where better than to delve into some spooky goings-on than at Nottinghamshire pubs that are well known for their spirits - and we're not just talking about the gin and whiskey.
Soon afterwards, customers at the pub, on Maid Marian Way, started to complain of small marks, as though they had been scratched by a child. This continued over a two-week period until the landlord of the pub took a doll down to the cave and left it there for Rosie - that's when the scratching stopped. But when another landlord moved in and removed all the toys, all the beer went off.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham One of the oldest pubs in the UK dating back to 1189, the Trip is steeped in history and spooky tales. No one will clean the Cursed Galleon on top of the bar in the Rock Lounge because the last three who did all died mysterious and unexpected deaths within 12 months of doing so.
The pub, which offers overnight accommodation, has regularly had psychic mediums visit the building and a ghostly presence has always been detected. It is known that a resident hung themselves in one of the rooms many years ago. The chambermaids are said to frequently report that items move around in room nine. Shadows have passed over their heads, guests’ feet have been tickled during the night and some have said that they have heard whispering in their ears.
Generations of villagers have also passed down stories of a former 19th century inn keeper called Tom, who is said to haunt the building. A phantom of a man wearing a black suit from the 1940s is also said to make the occasional appearance.
