Health officials slashed NHS beds to treat addicts hours after approving plans for controversial drug consumption rooms . Mental health and addiction workers in Glasgow have told the Sunday Mail that services are in crisis, with huge waiting lists for emergency support and staff at breaking point.
“The UK and Scottish governments must resource the health service properly, giving breathing space to our members to do their jobs without compromising their own health. Where these services aren’t funded and supported properly, it’s not an efficiency – costs are simply multiplied in other parts of the NHS or public services like the police or ambulance service.”
“But the nursing teams are decimated. When I started, the team was more than double what it is now. For patients who need help, they’re having to go on waiting lists to get mental health assessments.”
