Locals have been told to expect delays to road, rail, air and ferry services. Bus and train journeys may also be impacted, with some journeys taking longer.
Glasgow is set for more weather misery as gale force winds up to 60mph are set to batter the city this weekend.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for "strong winds", which comes into force from 7am on Saturday, December 21, up until 9pm the same day. According to the Met Office, there is "a small chance of isolated, short term loss of power" in some areas. A spokesperson said: "Strong westerly winds are expected to develop through the course of Saturday, with gusts of 50-60 mph developing quite widely across this region."This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, which may have a greater than usual impact given the busier pre-Christmas weekend travel. Dangerous coastal conditions can be expected too, with large waves an additional hazard.
This weekend's forecast for Glasgow reads: "Very windy with spells of rain Saturday and Sunday, a risk of severe gales. Winds gradually easing Sunday."
