The Met Office issues two yellow weather warnings for strong winds across parts of the UK, leading to potential travel chaos and disruption.
Parts of the UK are preparing for 60mph winds as the Met Office issues two fresh yellow weather warnings for 'strong and gusty' gales. Strong gusts could cause delays in public transportation and widespread travel disruptions for parts of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, the forecaster said. A yellow warning covers large parts of northern England, including Sheffield and Leeds, as well as a small section of southern Scotland.
This warning is in effect from 3am until 2pm today, with the Met Office anticipating gusts of 50mph to 60mph in some areas. Potentially stronger winds are expected in more exposed locations as west to south-westerly winds increase from late last night onwards. Coastal areas in Wales and Northern Ireland, including Belfast, along with parts of southern Scotland, including Glasgow and Edinburgh, have received another warning. This separate wind warning is predicted to last from 3pm on Tuesday until 8pm on Wednesday, according to the Met Office. Strengthening southerly winds will bring gusts of 40mph to 50mph inland and possibly 50mph to 60mph in more exposed areas, the Met Office said. Two separate yellow warnings have been issued for parts of the UK as they prepare to be hit by winds reaching up to 60mph. Delays to road, rail, air, and ferry transport are likely in these areas, with some bus and train services affected and large waves in coastal regions. The latest warnings come as many communities are still recovering from the devastating effects of Storm Darragh earlier this month. The storm left 200,000 homes without power as gale-force winds damaged buildings, uprooted trees, and brought down power lines. Some residents were forced to use candles for light as they experienced power outages lasting over 24 hours
