For almost 200 years, the Corner House served the community of Wrightington
in West Lancashire. It traded under names including The Scarisbrick Arms and The Mulberry Tree but closed for the final time in August 2022 as the cost of living crisis added to other pressures.
Now, the prospect of demolition has again moved close with a new application submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council. This time, applicant David Lawson only wants to build four houses on the plot. According to the application, the property has been listed for sale for several years but only attracted one bid. This was for £500k and therefore below the £700k and would have seen the building used as a venue for Asian weddings. It was eventually withdrawn.
